Oxbow’s Homeschool Day Navigates the Wilderness Jan. 19

Post Date:01/04/2018 7:00 AM

Immerse your kids in a wilderness excursion that will teach them valuable skills in using a GPS (Global Positioning System), a magnetic and solar compass and ‘reading’ nature to find their way. “Navigating the Wilderness” will be held at the Oxbow Eco-Center on Friday, Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The class is designed for ages 8 - 12 and is perfect for homeschool families, with lots of learning hidden in this fun and engaging session.

Navigating the Wilderness will help students hone their observation skills and try out some critical and creative thinking as they employ the art of ‘lost-proofing’ to avoid going astray in the first place. The day will culminate with a little team-building to test their newfound wilderness navigation skills and see if they can make it to the appointed destination in time.

Homeschool Discovery Days are programs designed to immerse children in learning and exploration. Each program will feature rotating stations of hands-on activities, fun games and outdoor excursions. While these programs are designed to engage children ages 8-12 in fun learning activities, older children are welcome to attend. Children under 8 may participate with one-to-one assistance from a parent.  The cost is $5 per participant and reservations are required.

The Oxbow Eco-Center is a St. Lucie County environmental learning center located at 5400 N.E. St. James Drive in Port St. Lucie. To learn more, call 772-785-5833 or visit www.oxboweco.com.
