Transit Bus Service
The Transit Bus Service functions as the Community Transportation Coordinator. The division works with St. Lucie County Community Transit to provide:
- Public Transportation
- Medicaid Transportation to medical appointments
- Disadvantaged transportation for area residents
- Transportation for seniors
Community Transit is a division of the Council on Aging of St. Lucie, Inc. and provides greater than 200,000 trips throughout the county.
Community Transit is the public transit provider for St. Lucie. Community Transit offers two programs to the community.
The first is the Demand-Response system that has been in service since 1990. This program provides curb to curb service where passenger trips are generated by calls from passengers or their agents at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance to schedules a vehicle to pick up the passenger.
The second service began in 2002 and is a fixed route program that runs along specific routes with scheduled arrival times at designated locations. Reservations are not required, but arriving at least 5 minutes early to the stop is recommended.
These transportation services (bus services) are provided at a nominal cost to all residents to any location, for any reasons within St. Lucie County. They run from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays. For more information, call 772-464-RIDE (7433) or visit: http://www.treasurecoastconnector.com/.
On a limited basis, an inter-county transfer station has been established between Martin & St. Lucie Counties for the transportation of Medicaid clients.
We also have a special program with a local artist that creates durable benches for the bus stops on the Connector routes.
