Homeschool Discovery Days
Join us for Homeschool Discovery Days; mini-events designed to immerse your child in learning and exploration! Each program will feature rotating stations of hands-on activities; fun games and outdoor excursions.
Programs start at 10:00am and may run until 1:00pm, so please bring a lunch. Programs target ages 8-12. Older children are welcome. Younger children are welcome with one-on-one parent participation. Cost is $5.00 per child. Registration required.
Learn to Read the Signs of WildlifeFriday, November 17th
Wildlife are shy and elusive, and many species are rarely seen. But as they move, eat and den-up, they leave clues just waiting to be found and studied. Join Oxbow naturalists to learn the art of tracking. The program will including stations on animal tracks, scat and on how to read bones, specifically skulls.
Navigating in WildernessFriday, January 19th
Join us to learn all about finding your way in the great outdoors. This mini event will include Lost Proofing, How to make a Solar Compass, The Use of a magnetic Compass, and basic GPS principles. The day will culminate with a navigational challenge through the Oxbow preserve. Can your team make it to the appointed location in time?
River Rescue: Learn how YOU can be a Hero to the St. Lucie River & Indian River LagoonFriday, March 16th
The Oxbow Eco-Center will partner with research organizations to bring you this very informative and interactive workshop. Participants will move through learning stations on watershed issues, living shorelines, citizen science projects and more
J.O.E Club & Programs
Join us for the 2017-2018 Junior Oxbow Explorer Program series where participants learn about habitats, wildlife and the environment through hiking expeditions, hands-on activities, games and more! And new this season, the J.O.E Club! Become a J.O.E Club member by participating in any 4 J.O.E programs this season and filling out the appropriate page in your J.O.E Journal (provided). Habitat Hike @ Spruce Bluff Preserve

Strap on your boots or tennis shoes and come explore the habitats of Spruce Bluff Preserve in Port St. Lucie. Like the Oxbow, Spruce Bluff is one of many nature preserves managed by St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department. This preserve is the perfect place to see a variety of habitats including the endangered Florida Scrub, Pine Flatwoods, Bay-Gall Swamp, and Depression Marsh. Learn about the animals and plants that make their home in each and explore an ancient burial mound built by the Ais Indians.
The Science & Art of Leaves

Leaves keep plants alive, which in turn keep animal life alive on our planet. Talk about important little structures! Come learn more about nature’s perfect solar panels. This program includes a leaf scavenger hunt, leaf science lab and a leafy craft.

Hunters of the Sky with Treasure Coast Wildlife Center

Join us as we welcome special guest Treasure Coast Wildlife center and their animal ambassadors. Tim Brown, Director of Education for TCWC will present the program featuring a variety of birds of prey, including hawks, owls, vultures, falcons and eagles. Learn about the unique adaptations these birds have developed for hearing, sight, hunting and flight. Don’t miss this opportunity to view these magnificent birds up close, and learn about the important roles they play in nature.
