Marine Safety Division

St. Luie County Marine Safety , better known as "Ocean Rescue", is a Division of Public Safety & Communications.

There are three beach parks that are staffed by our Marine Safety Officers (lifeguards). The staffed beach park on North Hutchinson Island is Pepper Park Beach which is located directly behind the National UDT Seal Museum and is manned from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. seven days a week. On South Hutchinson Island, approximately one mile south of the Fort Pierce Inlet is South Beach Park which is manned from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sundays only. Also, on South Hutchinson Island, is Waveland Beach which is manned from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. seven days a week.

All of our Marine Safety Officers (lifeguards) are Florida State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians. The Marine Safety staff is required to be proficient in the American Red Cross automated external defibulator/CPR for the Professional Rescuer and the American Red Cross lifeguarding techniques. St. Lucie County Marine Safety is an Advanced Lifesaving agency according to the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) and follows the open water guidelines offered by the USLA.

As the first line of defense between the ocean and our patrons, our Marine Safety Officers strive to make our beaches a safe and relaxing place to bring family and friends. Please do not hesitate to make contact with one of our Marine Safety Officers if there is a problem. Our goal is to prevent incidents and injuries from occurring. Remember "Always swim near a lifeguard."
