Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - Gordy Road Disc Course Closed March 9-11 For Upgrades

The Gordy Road Recreation Area disc golf course will be temporarily closed Friday, March 9 through Sunday, March 11 as volunteers work to upgrade the course.

Volunteers from the Up the 10-Mile Creek Disc Golf Club will be working throughout the weekend making improvements to the course by pouring concrete tee boxes.

Managed by the St. Lucie County Environmental Resources Department, the disc golf course is part of the Gordy Road Recreation Area, which encompasses 44 acres that feature a half-mile interpretive trail and a nine-acre pond for fishing and kayaking.

All other amenities at the Gordy Road Recreation Area such as the trail, picnic pavilion and restrooms will remain open throughout the weekend. The maintenance project will only affect the disc golf course.

Purchased through a voter-approved bond referendum, St. Lucie County manages roughly 7,000 acres located on more than two dozen preserves that are open to the public for passive recreation. All St. Lucie County's preserves are open every day during daylight hours.
