Thursday, February 18, 2010 - County Hosts American Red Cross Lifeguard Courses

St. Lucie County Parks and Recreation's Aquatics Division is hosting an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course at two different County pools in March and April.  The American Red Cross Lifeguard training class will teach all the skills necessary to become a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard. 

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 15 years
  • Swim 300 yards continuously using each of the following strokes for at least 100 yards:  crawl and breaststroke. The stroke(s) used for the remaining 100 yards are the participant's choice.
  • Swim 20 yards, feet first surface dive in a minimum of seven feet of water and retrieve a 10-pound brick.  Swim back 20 yards with the brick and jump onto the pool deck within 90 seconds.


The cost to attend is $175 per person. Two classes are being offered in two different locations:
