Friday, May 21, 2010 - Indrio Savannahs Closure Extended To May 26

The temporarily closure of Indrio Savannahs Preserves will continue through Wednesday, May 26 as St. Lucie County's Environmental Resources Department and the Florida Division of Forestry (DOF) monitor "hot spot" areas that were recently treated with prescribed burns. The preserve will reopen on Thursday, May 27.

Prescribed burns are conducted regularly by forestry officials to decrease the chance of wildfires and improve habitat for all wildlife in these preserves.

The Indrio Savannahs Preserve is located at 5100 Tozour Road, Fort Pierce, off U.S. 1 and is part of St. Lucie County's Environmentally Significant Lands program.
