Monday, August 30, 2010 - Fort Pierce Library Announces September Movies
The Fort Pierce Branch Library announces its ''Friday Matinee'' lineup for September. Held every Friday, the library presents a free film, starting at 2 p.m.- Sept. 3 - "Joe Versus the Volcano" (1990) featuring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. When a hypochondriac learns that he is dying, he accepts an offer to throw himself in a volcano at a tropical island. Along the way there, he learns to truly live. Running time: 102 minutes; rated PG.
- Sept. 10 - "Hurricane" (1979) featuring Mia Farrow and Jason Robards. A devastating hurricane threatens the love affair between a young Samoan chief and an American painter. Filmed entirely on location in Bora Bora. Running time: 120 minutes; rated PG.
- Sept. 17 - "White Lighting" (1973) featuring Burt Reynolds. An ex-con teams up with federal agents to help them break up a moonshine ring. Running time: 101 minutes; rated PG.
- Sept. 24 - "Twister" (1996) featuring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. In this adventure swirling with cliff-hanging excitement and awesome special effects, Hunt and Paxton play scientists pursuing the most destructive weather front to sweep through mid-America's Tornado Alley in 50 years. Running time: 113 minutes; rated PG-13. Unaccompanied children 12 and under must have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian to attend the movie. Permission slips will be available at the Fort Pierce Branch Circulation Desk Sept. 17 - 24.
