Road and Bridge Division
The Road and Bridge Division has three Operating Sections - Drainage, Maintenance and Traffic. They are responsible for providing maintenance and reconstructing of County drainage facilities, roadways, traffic signs and signals and the heavy equipment service garage. Combined, they have 51 employees and 17 contractThe Drainage Section, consisting of 12 employees and 5 contract labor employees, is responsible for the mechanical cleaning of 1,100 plus miles of roadway ditches/swales and 50 plus miles of primary drainways/canals. This includes the installation of culverts and similar drainage structures.
The Maintenance Section consisting of 33 employees and 10 contract labor employees, is responsible for maintaining 376 miles of paved roadways, 97 miles of rock/dirt roadways, 38 miles of chip-sealed roadways and 29 miles of asphalt milled roadways. Road maintenance includes right-of-way mowing, surface patching, shoulder repair, and grading of dirt roads. This unit is also responsible for managing the roadway resurfacing program for the County. The heavy equipment service garage has 1 full time mechanic.
The Traffic Section consisting of 6 employees and 2 contract employees, is responsible for the design approval, operation, maintenance, and repair of existing traffic signals, overhead flashers; the fabrication of regulation, warning, guide signs and street signs and all county required s
pecialty signs; the application annually of roadway thermoplastic stripping and guardrail repairs; conducting traffic counts and traffic operation studies, as well as maintaining the County’s accident data base and Adopt-A-Road Program.
